After a few weeks in Colorado, my hair had gone completely limp. My usually very curly hair was crispy, flat, thin, and almost straight. I needed a cut.
We curly girls can’t just let anyone at it, or risk looking like a triangle, but I was desperate. I searched best curly cuts in Boulder and booked the first appointment I could get for the next day at Voodoo Hair Lounge . I set my bar low, but the next day was a double win.
I sat down, sipped my Nitro brew (wayyyyy too strong for me. I had to quit that real fast), and enjoyed the adult conversation. But as I walked out with my new ‘do’ and saw a basket of hair I thought “gross… AMAZING!” because I knew it was going somewhere. I had heard of hair composting and people taking their hair home to put in their compost, and thought that is some next level shit.
Voodoo is a Certified Sustainable Salon with Green Circle Salons. They recover up to 95% of beauty waste like hair clippings, foils and color tubes. They collect the hair to compost, turn into bio composite plastics (i.e. a trashcan), used for research and development of new environmental technology like insulation and storm water filtration (what?!) and made into products for humanitarian efforts.
So interesting! Had I known this was a thing I would have sought out a salon like this. Look for one here!
Also, the key to curly hair in Colorado seems to be to cut it short to get that bounce back. And leave in conditioner.
